1849-D $1 Gold Liberty. NGC graded AU-55. CAC Approved. A nice bold strike and lightly toned. Only 21,588 minted. Sharp denomination and date on the reverse; the obverse misses in a few details where the topmost hair loses some definition and the rim denticles lack substance along the right-hand side to below the bust. On a par with others from the smaller branch Mint in Georgia, which coined Gold Dollars from 1849 to 1856 (PCGS # 7507) .

1849-O $1 Gold Liberty. NGC graded MS-62. Well struck and lightly toned. First year design, this struck at America's largest ocean port, New Orleans, Louisiana, gateway to the heartland of the nation. A lustrous example. Designed by James B. Longacre would be go on to do the Flying Eagle and Indian Cents in the next decade (PCGS # 7508) .

1850-O $1 Gold Liberty. NGC graded MS-62. A nice sharp strike with a dark toning streak on the head of Liberty. An elusive and fairly underrated New Orleans Gold Dollar from a production of just 14,000 coins. This attractive Mint State example exhibits a much better strike than usual for the issue, with outstanding depth and detail at the central obverse. The reverse also is sharply detailed on the wreath, has full lettering, and shows a strong date. Both sides are frosty and show appealing, deep, natural orange-gold coloration (PCGS # 7512) .

A still-lustrous coin having spent enough time in circulation to acquire a short hairline in the field paralleling the nose and moderate abrasions in the field and on some devices on the reverse. Full clear date with a bold C mintmark (for Charlotte, North Carolina, one of three mints opened by the US government in the South in the year 1838) (PCGS # 7514) .
